Description
Magnet sword! For my Syaoran cosplay, artbook version . In overall made out of wood and Super Sculpey, reinforced with metal, and with red satin and gold vinyl. There are magnets inside of the scabbard in the four places where the banners wrap around, and more magnets in the banners themselves, so they can be wrapped instantly and stay in place. I didn’t make the blade inside for the purpose of this little trick. Thanks to ~MoonRosesTeam for pointing me to the right place for the magnets I needed!
Syaoran’s hand covers part of the guard on the artwork so I had to make something up. I took some liberties because, as much as I tried, I couldn’t make a one-sided guard I was satisfied with and I knew I wouldn’t have any fun building something I thought was fundamentally ugly. I mirrored the part we see over on the other side but kept the asymmetrical theme with the middle part, which I based on a symbol on the banners. I also modified the gold print on the scabbard so that both sides would complement each other like a candy cane, and I completed one of the banners because it looks like it’s coming out of his sleeve…?
The result is quite different looking than on the artwork, which I’m not comfortable with and is probably the reason why I feel like I need to justify my choices. I hate having to be creative!
